The Future of Food

The Guidelines for this project were to find a citable news article or short story about the future of food, then create an editorial piece with and front and back cover for the article. I originally found an essay titled, "Why aren't we eating insects?" Published by the New York Times. The article talked about the future of insects as a reliable and environmentally conscious way to sustain the world. Below are beginning iterations for my editorial piece.
Through my beginning iterations the essay began to bore me and I began research into a new idea along the line of insects. I found a news article from 1910 where an artist created a series of imagery where insects were much larger and terrorized downtown New York. This sent me on a search for a fictional story depicting something like this happening, coming up short I decided to write my own short story.
Below is my final editorial design, along with the short story I wrote to to fit with the imagery. The story was written as if a history teacher was telling the story of past events. I am not in love with the way the story turned out as I wrote it hastily and didn't develop it to the fullest extent I would have liked, however, this will give me a chance to continue the project into the future and to make it into the something I am happy with. The page with the cow icon served as a nice way to tie in the three projects I did this semester while also serving as an infographic with a quick fact about insects.
This is the cover I made for the editorial. The goal of my story was to show a confused world scrambling to save humanity so the images being cropped and separated was my way to bring that confusion into the cover design.
